‘Inappropriate development’Hewson’s View of January 27certainly elicited many responses.

Most of them in support of his views that Bowral is fast becoming “a Westfield, just without the roof?”

Having spent the last four and a half years actively involved in the effort to keep the southern entrance of Bowral free of inappropriate developments I was astonished to read “we hear of the inevitable approval of Kmart that would become the devastating entrance to Bowral from the south.”

I am surprised that MrHewson appears to be unaware that this is absolutely not going to happen – unless, of course, the council has somehow managed to reverse the zoning once again.

On October 16, 2015 the re-zoning of the “Gardens Are Us” site back to R3 Medium Density Residential was gazetted and published.

Needless to say the developer once again took legal action.

Council continued to support the community and after a number of appeals finally onAugust 1, 2016 the court found in favour of council.

As far as I am aware there have been no further DA’s lodged for this site. Inevitably there will be plans lodged but they cannot be for a commercial development.

One hopes that whatever is proposed for this prominent site will be something attractive and in keeping with Bowral’s character.

In the meantime there is, once again, an inappropriate development proposed for the northern entrance to Bowral as well as a large development proposed for Southern Highlands Winery at Sutton Forest – both of these developments are completely at odds with the character of this area.

There have been many submissions made to council in respect of both these developments.

MrHewson may be interested to know that there is a strong possibility that “Bowral Matters” may once again be a force to be reckoned with.

Some of your readers will be aware that this group was formed some years ago when there were inappropriate plans proposed for the OLSH site on Centennial Road.

In conclusion I would make the comment that I am certainly not against development per se, but I am, and always will be, against inappropriate developments.
