Manning Valley are masters in hockey

Manning Valley Masters Hockey will resume next Tuesday (February 7)from 7pm at the Alan Taylor Memorial Field.

Anyone aged 35 years or over is invited to play in this forthcoming 2017 season.

The first night will be an organisational and grading night, which will be followed by a team competition and barbecuein week two.

Those unable to attend on those nights but intendto play are asked to contact Peter Frappell, Peter Cubbin or Phil Collier so that they can be put in a team.

At the 2016 annual general meeting, held just before Christmas, Phil Collier was re-elected president for 2017, Peter Frappell secretary and Peter Cubbin treasurer.

Life Membership was bestowed on Peter Cubbin for his untiring work as treasurer and in masters organisation over many years.

His name will appear on a new honours board shortly to be erected in the clubhouse.

Another board listing past presidents and representative players is also underway.

Players may be aware of the first carnival of the year, the Alan Richardson Memorial Over 60s to be held at Newcastle on February 24, 25 and 26.

This is always a great social weekend and entry forms can be obtained through Peter Frappell or Terry Café.

For your diary, carnivals this year will be:

Over 55s, March 24,25,26, Illawarra; over 65s and 35s, April 21,22, 23l, Bathurst; over 50s, May 19,20,21, Grafton and over 45s and 40s, June 16,17,18, Newcastle.

The Manning Masters hockey community was saddened to learn of the passing of two hockey stalwarts over the holiday break.

Fred Sewell (Macarthur ) and Jim ‘Strawb’ Stanbury (Newcastle) will be sadly missed by all their mates. Our condolences go to both their respective families.

Looking forward to a great roll up on February 7.
