Elphinstone rebrands

The manufacture of the WR820 agitator truck by Elphinstone marks the return of the company to the underground mining manufacturing sector.

Sales and marketing manager Zak Brakey said the company aims to get to a point where they are producing 200 machines per year for the global market.

Constructed primarily of components supplied by Caterpillar OEM, the platforms will bear the Elphinstone name solely.

Sales and marketing manager Zak Brakey said the branding of the machines under Elphinstone marks the start of a long term strategy that may include re-brandingboth Haulmax and Railmax machines.

“When Elphinstone sold the original underground business to Caterpillar in 2001 the brand and intellectual property went too,” Mr Brakey said.

“We wanted to buy the brand and name back because it is a globally recognised and respected in the underground mining industry.”

Mr Brakey said Elphinstone will continue to manufacture underground mining support machinery.

In addition to the WR820, the company will be manufacturing the WR810 –a10 tonne version of the platform which can be configured as an agitator concrete truck, a cassette carrier, an underground charging, a shotcreter, a delivery truck with crane, a scissor lift, a water cannon and water truck.

Mr Brakey said the company has delivered 24 WR820 platforms, a number of which have been sentto Freeport’sgold and copper mine in Indonesia.

“We hope there will be a lot more opportunity for local employment, whichis one ofthekey driving points behind moving back into manufacturingunderground mining support equipment,” he said.

Mr Brakey saidthe company would continue to utilise the “experiencemanufacturing supply chain” that exists on the North-West Coast
