“It’s been a long time coming in the sense we’ve been mates for a long time, we’ve known each other for a really long time,” Fanning says.

“I think initially Kasey did a cover of These Days years and years ago and we just kind of became mates somehow, I can’t remember how.

“But then we starting singing on each others records, we’ve both gotkids similar ages so we’ve got lots in common apart from being fans of each other’s music.

“It’s one of those things … because we’re friends and we like each other and thought it would be fun to go on the road together.

“And we also think it’s a bit more special doing it in smaller towns rather than doing it in the cities.”

Chambers and Fanningwill play to a sold out Albury Entertainment Centre on Wednesday, February 15, as part of the 11-stopSooner Or Later Tour, which kicked off at Tamworth last week.

Fanning’s last Border performance was a rain-drenched Powderfinger Sunsets farewell concert at Albury Sportsground in 2010.

Chambers is a regularon the Border and both have a big following, little surprise tickets for the February 15 show were snapped up so quickly.

“We each do our own sets but we’ll come together and play some of the songs we’ve done together, and probably a couple of covers, a few surprises in there. It should be a lot of fun,” Fanning says.

“Ithink Kasey’s playing first I’ll be playing last but we definitely come together every night and bash a few things out together.

Both performers hit the road with new albums out, or on the way.

Fanning released Civil Duskfeaturing the duet Sooner or Later with Chambers last year and his follow-up, Brutal Dawn, is due in May.

Chambers released Dragonfly on January 20and the double-album went straight to No. 1 on the ARIA Album chart.

“If you’ve heard Civil Dusk, there’s some pretty mellow moments on there but there’s also some rock songs so it’s a pretty varied show,” he says of the concert.

“I was pretty keen to get out there and play as much as I could with my band because I think the band is really awesome and I’m also just keen to go places I haven’t been before … we just talked about it and said ‘yeah, lets do it, it sounds like a good idea’.”
