Ready to learn in the pool: Walcha Flippers recently held their annual James Harwood Swim Clinic at the pool from 9am to 12 noon with 44 members participating.CONGRATULATIONS to all-round sports people Kyle Goodwin and Dougal Payne on their respective senior and junior Walcha Sportsperson of the Yearawards at Australia Day Breakfast held at the multi-purpose centre last Thursday. WHILE the pats on the back are being handed out, roughrider Gerard “Westy”Oversby deserves a big one after he was named All-round Cowboy of the Yearfollowing the National Finals at Tamworth last week. Westy is also ABCRA Bareback champion while his good mate and fellowAll-round Cowboy title holder Carl Green took out the Saddle Bronc and Bull Rider titles at the event.

LAST Sunday, the Walcha Flippers held their annual James Harwood Swim Clinic at the pool from 9am to 12 noon with 44 members participating under the tutoring of James and several of his staff members who had made the trip south. The weather and water temperatures were great, with plenty of time for drills and stroke correction. There were discussions on training, pre-carnival routines including what to eat before competition.

JAMES Harwood still holds the Walcha Flippers 8 years and under boy records in six events and the 10 years 4 X 50 metre medley.

ALL-ROUNDER Cameron Wood became the third Uralla batsman to score a century in the Walcha Cricket competition and beat the highest scorer by a Uralla player when he belted an unbeaten 154 runs against Rugby League on his home ground last Saturday.

THEonly other Uralla batsman to score tons during the club’s seven season stint (1997 – 99 and 2013 – 17) in the Walcha News Cup are Nathan Swann 110 and Jay Grills 106 not out who both achieved that feat last season.Wood belted 12 fours and three sixes on his home ground after he entered the game with his team doing it a bit tough at 3/12. THE final round of the Walcha News Cup is scheduled for this Saturday to determine positions going into the semi-finals. Swamp lead the points score with 54 followed by Colts 50, Uralla 50, League 40 and Kentucky 30. At sixpoints for a win, fourfor a draw, two for a loss, you do the calculating. Colts v Uralla at the Park Kentucky v Swamp at J.O.S.
